Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga is a wonderfully therapeutic practice using many different props to support the weight of the body. This allows the nervous system to shift from a sympathetic response to stress (“Fight - or Flight) into a parasympathetic response (“Rest and Digest”).
Even when we sleep, our bodies are still active and engaged, muscles tighten as we dream, we move to get into comfortable positions, etc. With restorative yoga the props allow our muscles to take a break, and we can focus our attention more on our body and our breath, restoring energy and calming the mind.
Each pose is held for about 5-15 minutes allowing your body and mind to truly rest. Restorative Yoga is beneficial when you need to eliminate fatigue and stress that result from daily activities. It can also help you recover from illness and injury or overcome emotional depression and anxiety.
You should leave class feeling a shift in both body and mind.
